Twitter Party

June 23, 2010 1 Comments
I attended my first twitter party last night and I'm so glad I did!  It was put on by Holisticmoms.org, Jennifer Margulis, author and Mothering Magazine writer, and Bummis Diapers.  The party was all about cloth diapering.  I had a great time chatting with other moms about clothdiapers, poop, amonia,  and everything else in between!

It is so great knowing there is such a support system out there on the interwebs for mothers and not just cloth diapering mothers, I mean for all mothers in general.  Everyone was very willing to help answer questions and I didn't feel out of place at all!  It was really wonderful!  I was able to get lots of helpful information about why my diapers are stinky and how to get rid of the smell.  Which by the way has been taken care of now! :)  It was great hearing all the reasons why people choose to cloth diaper - from cost, to checmicals, to dragging the trash bags of dirty diapers to the curb!  I really enjoyed myself and will definitely be participating in more in the future.

Another bonus to these twitter parties are the prizes that are given away!  There were a bunch of fantastic prizes given away frm Bummis (Thank you Bummis) and wouldn't you know it, I won the grand prize!  I never win anything so I was so so so excited to win!

Check it out, I won a Bummis Starter Kit!  Yeah the whole kit!!!

Take a look at what it includes!!

  • 18 baby size Organic Cotton Prefold diapers (4 x 8 x 4 layers thick)
  • 2 Super Whisper Wraps – medium
  • 2 Super Brites – medium
  • 1 roll Bio-Soft liners – large
  • 5 reusable Fleece Liners
  • 1 Fabulous Wet Bag – large (available exclusively in the Kit!)
  • User Guide
So thank you so much to Holistic Moms and Bummis for such a fantastic prize!  Thanks for making my first twitter party just the much more fun and exicting!  I will definitely be attending more and I really look forward to it!

Update to my 101 things in 1001 days....

June 21, 2010 1 Comments
It's been a bit since I updated this list so I took a look at it today and realized I actually did do a few things off the list! :)  Yippee!

3. Buy a new car.  Yes we did!  Just last week we bought a van!  Yes, you read that right!  We are now proud owners of a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan!  Insert all the mom jokes, giggles, and what have you here.  I'm okay with that I'm really digging the new van! :)

36. Clean my scrap booking room.  I'm sure the only reason this one was completed was because we are getting ready to change Hannh over to her big girl room which was once my scrab booking room.  I have since put all my scrap booking stuff in bins to be put away until I can decide on another room to clutter! :)

48. Take Hannah swimming in the lake.  We've actually done this a couple of times now.  The weather has been wonderful and we've been spending our weekends at the trailer which has a gorgeous lake!  We've been done there a couple of times and Hannah has really enjoyed it!  She is not afraid of the water at all and once she has her water wings on she has NO FEAR!

Thats it, I've crossed off 3 more things on my list not to bad if you ask me! :)

Check back with my original list to see all the things I've crossed off so far!  Here it is!

It's a....

So I know all my readers have been patiantly waiting to hear the results of our U/S on Friday!  So I won't make you wait any longer.

The verdict is in and we are having a

Boy!

My mommy instincts were right and we'll be welcoming a bundle of blue to our family late October early November!  We are very excited, actually I'm not nervous at all which I didn't really expect.  I thought I'd be freaking out a little over the fact that our new baby will have a penis!  But I'm okay with it, actually I'm more than okay with it, I'm really excited!

Now we just have to think of a name for our little man! :)

Tomorrows the big day!

June 17, 2010 1 Comments

Tomorrow we'll be finding out if baby is a boy or girl

I'm so excited and a little freaked about about the whole thing.  It's really hard to believe that tomorrow I'll actually be that much closer to knowing my baby.  We'll soon have a name for him or her and we'll be able to get started on the bedroom and getting things ready for our new bundle!   It's really crazy how quickly this pregnancy has gone.  I remember who long the whole thing seemed to be with Hannah - waiting for that first flutter, waiting for my belly to start getting bigger, etc.  Now I don't have time to wait for all of these things.  We're always on the go with Hannah and it seems that everything has just sort of crept up on us.  I mean seriously I'll be almost 21 weeks! Wow!

We've started the process of converting my scrapbooking/junk room into Hannahs new big girl room!  It's quite a bit bigger than the room she has now and has 3 windows as oppose to her 1 she has now!  We've done the first coat of paint just this past weekend.

This is the colour we choose -  I think?  I was just going by memory for the name of the colour.  Anyway I think it's called Celery ice or something like that.  It looks a lot like this although I think maybe it's a bit brighter on the walls.  It looks fantastic!  Acutally I think if we Chris had a choice, he would probably re-paint every room in the house this colour.  I like it but not quite that much!  I'll try and get some pictures of it tonight.  Right now it's just painted from the ceiling to about half way.  We're planing wainscoting for the bottom half of the room which will be painted in a white!  I think it's going to look wondeful!

Anyway, after our ultrasound tomorrow morning we're heading up to the trailer so there probably won't be an update on here until we get back Sunday.  Keep posted!

Fluffy Tuesday!

June 15, 2010 1 Comments
We picked up all but 10 of our diapers on Friday evening!  Hannah was excited when we got to EcoBabies because Kristen's kiddos where there watching her favorite cartoon - Caillou!  She sat up in the chair and watched like such a sweetheart while we got all our "stuff" (pun intended) in order!  I was so excited to get home and throw the diapers in the wash so we could start our cloth diapering!

I put them in the wash once Hannah went to bed and the next morning they were ready for a bum!  Well first I had to stuff them!  Thanks to Hannah we had that under control!

Yes, she is wearing a bib!  She was suppose to be eating her breakfest!

Hannah loved helping me out and stuffing all the diapers!  It made the process a few seconds longer but it was so fun and so darn cute to watch her try her hardest to do what mommy was doing.  I am also super excited that she's just as happy and excited about cloth as I am! :)
This is our new stash of cloth diapers (we are missing 10 diapers, Kristen didn't have enough gender neutral colours in stock).

I also bought all the prefolds we are going to use on the new baby, cloth wipes, inserts, wet bags, laundry bags, liners, you name it, we are ready to diaper some bums!  I did have a picture of all of it together but it didn't upload to Flickr so it's still at home on my computer! :( But it's really pretty!  I really never thought I'd be so excited about cloth diapers!  But I am!!!!

So far they have worked out AMAZING!  We haven't had any major leaks a bit of wicking around the legs but nothing we can't deal with and fix!  I've been reading up online to see what others are saying and it looks like we're running into the same thing everyone else does when they make the swtich to cloth!

Anyway, I leave you with a couple of pictures of my "fluffly" butt modeling her new orange and favorite colour of BK

Help Jill #helpSam

June 09, 2010 0 Comments
I'm sure a lot of you have heard heartbreaking stories of babies, toddlers, and young children sick with cancer. This story is one of those.

This little guy, Sam is just 5 months old and has stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma, he's been given a 30% cure rate!

Jill at BabyRabies needs you're help!  She's started this amazing fundraiser to help raise money for the family who is struggling to make ends meet.  With medical bills increasing drastically they wonder how they can afford groceries, gas for their vehicle, house payments, etc.

Cassie (Sam's mom) spoke with Jill about their financial situation.
In order to take care of Sam I dropped to PRN or “as needed” status with my job, which meant that we were no longer eligible for benefits and starting in June will be paying for Cobra. My husband’s employer does not offer insurance and my husband and I are not eligible for private insurance due to preexisting conditions. At first I entertained the notion that I could still work 3 days a week, but soon realized that wasn’t feasible. We’ve only spent a handful of nights out of the hospital since his diagnosis.
Sam was approved for passport (medicaid.) The reason we would like to keep Cobra coverage for him in addition to the passport is because if for some reason he is dropped from passport and we need to add him back on the cobra plan there is a chance that there will be a waiting period before any preexisting conditions are covered if there is any lapse in coverage. We’re trying to play it as safe as possible. Cobra seems like a lot for us to pay for but is nothing compared to the astronomical amount we would have to pay for just ONE admission without insurance. But if worse comes to worst, my husband and I will just go without insurance.
I don’t know if this is divulging too much, but with my husband’s paycheck we can pay for our mortgage and bills and that’s it. There’s no extra for food or gas or necessities… and there’s really not $1,500 extra for Cobra. Next month our car will be paid off which will help. We are truly just trusting that God will provide and so far he has.
Let's help!  A little goes a long way!  If you'd like to help this family and help Jill reach her goal of $7500 please donate here.  Jill has some wonderful fundraising prizes that you're name will be entered into for just donating $5.

I just couldn't image not helping.  What if that had been my child?  How would we afford to pay for the things needed?  I can not imagine the stregth this family must have!  They need you help and just a simple donation can help!

You can read all about this family on their blog here

Dare I blog about it too?

June 08, 2010 0 Comments
The 4 year old article that Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, host of TLC’s Shalom in the Home wrote regarding Breastfeeding hurting your marriage. It has recently been published by Beliefnet.com and has hit the blogging world by storm.

I was going to because it really really bothered me but I think it's been talked about plenty by bloggers especially mommy bloggers and especially breastfeeding mommy bloggers. It's an old article plus he's already "kind of" apoligized about it here. I say kind of because I'm not really sure it's much of an apology as it is just a rewording/reworking of what he wrote in the original article.

Anyway, that's all I'm going to say about it. I certianly have my opinions and I think anyone close to me, especially DH has already heard all I have to say about it.

Read it for yourself, make your own opinions and if you're interested come back here and leave a comment for me! A little discussion is always appreciated around here! :)

Also if you are interested in reading a few blog entries check these out Jill at BabyRabies, or Kim Rosas from Dirty Diaper Laundry. I think they both make great points and feel very much like how I felt after reading it myself.
