The Diva Cup review and Giveaway!

I know I've had some readers patiently waiting for this review and I'm really sorry it's taken me so long to get it posted. I had big ideas for it but things didn't work out so I figured I'd better get this up anyway!

What is the diva cup?
The diva cup is a menstrual alternative to disposable tampons and sanitary pads.  It is a non-absorbent menstual cup that collects menstrual flow.  It is inserted and sits low in the vagina.  The cup can be worn for up to 12 hours before emptying, washing and reinserting for another 12 hours.  It can be used any time of your flow, heavy or light and is perfect for overnight.

  • It is latex-free, BPA-free and plastic free
  • It has zero dyes, colours or additives
  • It is comfortable and reliable
  • Clean, convenient, and easy to use
Make sure you check out their website for TONS more information about what the Diva cup is, how to use it, where to buy it, etc.

Why I use the Diva Cup

I started looking for alternatives to pads and tampons many years ago when I was so fed up with the painful itchiness, rashes, and inflammation I had each time I had my period and had to use pads/tampons.
I knew there had to be something different but I couldn't find it.  When I did find the Diva cup, no one knew much about it and I was intimidated by it.  I felt I might be "weird" if I used it, no one I knew used one so I didn't have anyone to talk to about it, so ultimately I left it on the shelf.  Right after I had Ev, I just couldn't HANDLE the uncomfortable week once a month any longer, I had to find something different.  I went to a local store and found what I was looking for.  I picked it up off the shelf and was immediately approached by the lady that worked there.  She told me if I had any questions to ask.  Okay, that's a good start....."Do you know much about this product?" I asked her.  "Oh yes!" That's all I had to say to get the conversation started.  That's all I had to say to get the passion radiating from the sales lady about how she LOVED the Diva cup!

I was sold!  I bought it right then and there and HAVEN'T turned back!

My Initial reaction - 3 months ago (3 cycles)

The first cycle was the hardest, if that's even the right word because it wasn't really hard.  I was just unsure of exact placement when inserting the Diva cup and did have a few leaks. I made sure to have a panty liner on for this exact reason.  Once I figured out the proper way to insert the cup it was good from then on.

I was a bit concerned at first because I have had two children and was worried that because I did have some tearing delivering both of them the cup would fall out.  Because of this I opted for Size 2 (sizing here).   During my first cycle, I could feel the cup and sometimes felt like the cup was going to fall out (it never did).  I did some looking around online and found that others had complained of the same thing and they trimmed the tip of the cup down a bit.  I decided I would trim the tip too and found that this really help with that protruding feeling.  I no longer feel the cup at all!

What I love about the Diva Cup

I LOVE that they are a Canadian company (actually they are a local company to me which is even more exciting)!

I LOVE that I am no longer dealing with the pain, itchiness, rash, inflamed soreness I had each time I was menstruating before using the Diva Cup.

I LOVE that I am helping to save the planet and being conscious of our environment!  I am no longer helping throw away the 12 billion sanitary pads and 7 billion tampons into our North American landfills.

I LOVE that I am no longer putting dangerous additives near or inside my body.  Did you know, most pads and tampons contain dioxin, a known carcinogen.  It's a by-product of the bleaching process and obviously nothing we should have INSIDE our bodies!

And although menstrual cups have never been associated with TSS, I can't make any claims to this nature.  I personally feel I am protecting myself against the risk of it*.  To find out more information about Tampon related TSS please go to You ARE love.org and read Amy's story, she lost her life because of TSS at the age of 20!

So if you're interested in using the Diva Cup, my first thought would be to send you to the FAQ page on their website.  Read about the Diva Cup make sure it's something you want to commit to.  It's totally worth it and trust me, you will feel 100% different about your period.

I have found I have less cramping, less clotting (I know its kind of gross to talk about this right?). And just a much happier period (wait isn't that the slogan for Always??)  Anyway it's true, I am a total convert I LOVE feeling free of itchy, painful pads and tampons!  It really is freeing!

The Diva cup is definitely becoming more popular on store shelves! Yippee!  So check out the store finder to find a retailer near you or you can buy online here!

Of course, I wouldn't let my readers down...be sure to enter using Rafflecopter to win a Diva Cup of your very own! :)

*This is 100% MY opinion and has no scientific research behind it as of yet!

  8. I am a HUGE proponent of Diva Cup - I've been using mine for years, and I LOVE it. It literally changed my life! Unfortunately, it's time to replace it, and I'm really strapped for cash, so winning one for free would be especially helpful. :)

  13. I got mine almost a year ago...and OMG it swear it changed my life....i LOVEEE LOVEEE LOVEEE...I actually almost look forward to my period. No more mess, no more itchiness, a lot less cramps (not scientific, I know), nothing. And it saves you money in the long run, what's not to love? And honestly, I feel a lot more comfortable with my body as a whole, it's taken a lot of the mystery and ick factor out of menstruating.
I would like one to use as a back up in my purse or to try to get my friends hooked on it.

  20. I would love to win one because I've been looking at them for a long time, I don't want to dish out the money only to find out that maybe it doesn't work for me, I love that you have the convenience of a tampon without sticking a chemical stick in your body, and like my mom (of all people) tells me it almost makes you look forward to getting your period!

  26. I've recently started using tampons so I can do more physical activities. But the problem with tampons, I just can't work with it! I can't deal with the fact that it's linked to TSS, which scares me half to death because I am prone to diseases such as TSS and yeast infections. I'm so uncomfortable with it, I can ALWAYS feel it inside of me! The DivaCup seems to be a much better option for me, because it's not prone to diseases, and its highly sanitary if you take care of it. I am young, speaking, so I want to start taking care of my body and keep it healthy, and that's exactly what a DivaCup can help me do! I also can't afford one, because if it doesn't work for me, what'll I do?!

  27. I am a very environmentally conscious person, but am too tentative about this product to buy it. If I won one, I would definitely give it a whirl, and recommend it to friends if I find out that it lives up to the hype!
